I'm buying a new asymmetric cruising spinnaker for next season. I have a choice of a traditional drawstring bag or a box-type launch bag for storage. The sail maker feels that the drawstring bag is best for storage and getting the sail up/down from below but the box bag is best for keeping things organized and tied to the rail. I'm leaning towards the box bag. Any thoughts?

sock it to me!

What youi really want is a snuffer or "sock"--maybe it comes with the sail? Then I would use the sailbag for storage.

Which sailbag do you recommend?

I am getting a sock - but I still have a choice for which storage bag to use. I feel that the box bag is less important when using a sock but it would still keep the corners better organized.

I got something called a "Turtle Bag" for my Spin

I'm not sure if thats a "box-type", What I have looks like a cylinder and has two flexible plastic Hoops. One in the top and one in the bottom to hold the bag open. It also has a drawstring on the top and a mesh bottom to let water out and air in to help keep the sail fresh. There are also a snap hooks on the bag to attach it to your life line. I like the way this set up works The picture does not show great detail on the turtle bag but you get the picture (please disregard lounging guest ;D)

Prefer the Valise

The valise (square bag) is better for packing a socked spinnaker IMHO. You will want to flake the sock “accordion style” into the bag to make sure you don’t hoist the sock with an accidental twist in it. I’m not sure how you would pack a more conventional turtle to insure this not happening. Round turtles also have a bail and bungee type lid that (for me) tends to pop off when passing it through hatches and around corners (not to mention those ‘accidental’ launches!)
