Like flying spinnakers, but don't want the hassle of a full spinaker rig with pole. Considering an Assymetrical Cruising Spinnkar like the one sold by Doyle in the chandlery section of this website. Any one with experience with these on the Mac 25? Was it worth the cost? How are these downwind? Not racing, just messing about.

they're fun

I have one for my 21, and it's a blast. The boat positively flies in 10 knots of wind, from a beam to broad reach. Asymmetrics are not good for going dead downwind, which is no problem if you're not racing. If you do need to go dead downwind, it's faster to gybe down the course than sail straight. They're super easy to set and douse with a sock. Then just dump it down the hatch in the foredeck when you're going upwind. Also with only one control line (OK, two, but for just messing around you don't need a tackline) it's easy enough to handle with a crew of two relatively adept sailors.
