Here's an older pic of us out in rough seas in the Straight of Georgia. The boat is one of 3 Asaila 27's designed and built in 1989 by Chris Atkinson and Karl Hansen in BC. She's a trailerable motor sailer, ruggedly built, comfortable in accomodation and definitely a conversation piece when at the dock. We cruise the sheltered coastal waters of BC's Gulf Islands in this boat and hope to take her to Mexico (by road) in the coming years and also possibly ship her to France in a shipping container for a retirement cruise of the Canal du Midi. Currently powered by a new Yamaha T-50 4 stroke o/b, she'll motor at 12 kt max ( 9kt comfortably) and under sail, can reach 6.5 kt with the spinn. Displacement is about 4500lbs, the keel fully retracts hydraulicaly into a keel trunk, the rudder dismounts from pintles and the engine is raised by an electric winch to facilitate trailer loading which can be accomplished in about 1/2 hr including de-rigging of the forward folding A-frame mast. Her sistership, "Adventurer" is listed for sale with Thunderbird Yacht Sales in West Vancouver, BC. We've recently added a compliant holding tank system and plans for next winter include adding a 2-1/2 foot long "sugar scoop" type extension to the stern to provide both easier dinghy boarding from the transom door and reducing drag for greater speed and fuel efficiency while motoring. A full dodger and awning enclosure in Sunbrella with a 3 mt. kayak rack above is also underway this summer plus an extra 80lt. fuel tank is being fitted to extend the cruising range. A mountain bike is presently stored under the cockpit but it may find a place on the kayak rack if practical. We'll look like the Beverly Hillbillies afloat when we're done with all this! "250K" is not for sale at this time- she's too much fun and too easy to live with...
