Everybody was the "newbie" at some point, just treat them the way you want to be treated. You'll fit right in, remember 'POPEYE", I am what I am, and that's all that I am.

Cool! Other sailors in Nebraska! Not many of us.

The club seems nice. Not upper class snobs at all, but down to earth people that leave their business back in Lincoln. Just guys and gals in boats.

I think any visible light will do, but John or Mike, the new marina manager can tell you for sure. Did you go to the annual meeting? I could not go.

The people I have meet are very friendly. When we docked our 25 this spring, two people were on the docks helping. Very nice people. Had a nice conversation one day with a guy working with padlocks on his boat, trying to figure out keys. Later learned he is the attorney general of the state. Never would have guessed that.

I need to get the new purchase all cleaned up. Been sitting dry for years. Smells like grandmas basement, and the deck is all dirty. My wife hates it when I bring projects home. lol

Hey Gary I just bought a sailboat and got a slip at branched oaks. Looking forward to meeting sailors in Ne. How is anchoring out in the lake for overnight boat camping? I do not have a masthead light only a steaming light. I have heard that will be ok and nobody will say anything but I am still concerned. How is the club? I am a regular guy not a rich yachtman. Do not want to be around alot of stiffs!

lol...so true! :D

You'll immediately impress and make friends with at least half the population if you have an attractive scantily clad female crew on board. You won't believe all the help and advice guys will volunteer as they look for excuses to hang around your boat. The other half of the population, not so much.

Plainssailor, on another sailing board I'm on, everybody has small boats and really worries about energy usage. They also worry about 60mph boats at night and the effect of having a light at the top of a mast. Their recommendation is a Beka Light from Bebi Electronics. We just bought one for the 37' Tartan. It hangs from the back of the bimini and the down lights light up the grill at night and the all around lights are visible for 2nm and are closer to eye level for the 60mph boats. If I squint real hard while turning on the anchor light, I can see the amp meter twitch.

Saturday we slipped our Clipper Marine 32 sloop, and taking the advice from someone here, I suggested the yacht club president bring her into the dock for the first time. All went very well. On a funny note, my boat had a water line off to get through winter, and the boat took on inches of water before we found the problem. The presidents boat did something similar the next day, so I was all in all, fitting right in.
