Over 70-deg here on the Chesapeake today. Gentle little breeze blowing. And my boat is up on the hard. So what am I doing? Why starting spring maintenance, of course.

Warren, You are half way down the bay

and the weather is grand and the boat is docked on the hard. We are all the way up the bay and the water temp is still in the low 50's and Bietzpadlin is sitting high and dry in the yard.

Ouch!

On the hard too. Sunny and in the mid 60's here today, so I sat in the cockpit, cranked up the stero and had a beer.

It's winter here in South Mississippi!! Frank _/)

If you don't like the weather.....

Around here, we say, If you don't like the weather, wait 24 hours.... that's Washington/Chesapeake weather for you. I'm at the same marina as Warren and 2 weeks ago, right after I hauled, the water in the marina was frozen and my boathad slush in the bilge! What a day today was... sigh...

Ahhhhh

Sorry guys, but I spent Saturday sailing on Lake Lanier with my lady friend. Actually, we ghosted more than sailed because the winds were light and varible. No matter, it was about 72 degrees and clear. If the weather holds, we will be back out next Saturday (forecast is 60+ degrees) Afterwards we had a glass of wine and some cheese while we watched the sun set. Life is good in the southland.

For Steph...

My boat is in the K-West Row and I was walking up to the restrooms yesterday and saw a Cal 28, all covered with silver tarps, a step ladder at the bow and a grinder on the ground, a few boats up from mine. I knocked on the hull, but no one was home. Was that you?

Larry - which West Marine?

Larry - Which West Marine do you work at? I've probably met you either at Broad St. or in Deltaville's WM. I'll have to look out for you next time.

I am in the same boat too

Hi everyone, I too feel your pain. I went to visit Lola in the yard on Sunday, just to check on her and open the cabin to get some fresh air in there. It was sunny and beautiful and there she sits on her trailer. Go figure right, I live here in paradise can sail 12 months out of the year, and I am going to Wisconsin for Christmas... This will be a reminder of why I moved from there. I am going to have to dig out my socks. I wonder where I put my heavy coat... Can't wait to get back to Florida already, and I haven't even left yet. Ross 1979 Oday 25 Lola (sadly on her trailer)

Ross - don't bundle up too much -

It's been in the 40's here all week! I'm wishing I hadn't hauled (although last week when it was in single digits all week I was glad I had!) Wish you had time to get together while you're here.

Tampa Ross everything is a trade-off.

They get snow and ice in Wisconsin but they don't get hurricanes or red tides. Maryland Ross

Mid thirties in December, what's not to love...

Sounds great to me. I don't miss the freezing and the snow. My kids will be sad if there is no snow. Would love to get together with some of the Wisconsin sailors, but this trip is a lightning quick in and out. I will make a trip down to the lakefront at Racine to throw a rock in. It is a tradition that I have to do everytime I am up there. Have a merry christmas, and full sails to you all, if only in your dreams... Ross 1979 Oday 25 "Lola"

lucky

Boy You all make me feel awful lucky to be here in Daytona and able to sail 12 months. The flip side to that is that you guys can actually get projects done during the winter. I'm attaching a short video of a little offshore jaunt I took on Nov. 20th for anyone who would like to go there virtually for a sec :) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! lucky

You all make me feel very lucky to live in Daytona where I have 12 months to sail. Unlike the west coast of FL we have fewer thunderheads and more wind in the summer. Still get our share though(storms) and have to be careful. Right now it's 75 with some clouds and a 10 kt ENE going. Wish I could be out there but have to pay the bills. I did however get offshore on Nov.20 and am attaching a short video for folks that would like to virtually escape for just a minute, I hope you enjoy! Oh, and yes the jib is sagging a bit, the seas were 4 to 6, NW wind at 15 to 20 kts with higher gusts so it stretched my halyard just a bit :) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Windwalker

Be thankfull!

Up in the Pacific Northwest we are still recovering from last weeks wind storm. Most boats managed to fair well, but many homes are still without power. After day 3, I contemplated taking my family to the boat where we could at least have heat (propane heater) , and cook inside. The temp is just above freezing & it's raining... Got my power back, but many of my neighbors are still without. I think if it really got bad, I'd just move the family to the boat. At least we'd be self suficient...
