Arkansas sailing!

Sometimes you never know where adventures will lead. We replaced our 'small' boat in our fleet, moving from a first 235 to a very rare First 260. In the mean time, we discovered Arkansas and DeGray Lake. Stay away, you'll hate it!


After bit of outfitting, she is starting to look like a real boat. First up was me, and a new spin halyard. I had the easy job.

Weather was amazing this weekend. Four days down and we don't wanna go home. Here we are sitting at anchor. I'm getting in some dinghy time while the boss readies the boat. Irish Cream and coffee on deck while the sun sets.

Half my family live in Arkansas........ a very beautiful place and a wonderful area for sportsmen.... The other half live in East Texas...... just as beautiful .... but best of all.. great people.

Thanks guys... The lake is very very pretty. And the people are wonderful. A bit cool today but we've got all the spin rigging finally figured out (boat really needs barber haulers) and will fire up the GoProHD for some spin vids!

JD - Where are you going to keep the 260? I assume you sold the 235..... I am not interested in a boat any more as I have one now. A 235 was on my list though. Looks good, and the sailing is looking even better. Considering it is 18 here right now.....

Thanks, and yes the 235 is sold, last week actually to a guy from Colorado who drove her home! The 260 is much bigger and has an inboard diesel and standing headroom. Amazing with her pivoting keel, she is trailer able. She'll come home to Wayzata YC in the spring! Until then, winter sailing on degray. It's very very pretty here.

JD - Hope to see you out there this season. I can relate to driving a boat home, I did 700 miles with my 25 behind me. I think towing the 235 would be a bit easier but, those mountains in CO would be "interesting". Are you going to drive your 260 home or have it shipped?

CB - The 260 has a galvanized custom-made trailer, so we'll pull her home in the spring ourselves. Last year I pulled the 235 from Houston to Minneapolis in 24 hours, but I think I'll be going a bit slower with the bigger boat. See you on the water for sure!
