Looking for suggestions for lights on a 32 hunter. At night it seems like it can be almost TOO dark at times, especially when trying to manuever under power. Anyone have any suggestions for area lights (in particular at the front and sides of the boat) that can be turned on when trying to dock, etc.?

Also was interested in something to light up the sails at night (is that even legal?). Not extremely bright, but just to give some ambient light.

Any suggestions or comments appreciated

We use a handheld torch to spot navigation markers and help with docking. It does a good job too in illuminating the sails to make us more visible to approaching fast moving traffic.

Handheld for me too. Too much light like on sails all of the time hurts night vision. I just flash my spot up on the sails every few minutes if the radar shows someone near by.

Driving Lamps

I added 2 - 55W driving lamps as spreader lights on my Hunter 27. They are great for docking and maneuvering under power. They are not used under sail typically as they would flatten a battery pretty quickly.

excellent - this is exactly what i was looking for. Do you have any pictures showing where you mounted them, or which lights you used?

Here are a couple of pics. They were taken of the bow but the lights can be seen on the spreaders. They are wired on the same breaker as the deck light on the mast (combo steaming and deck light fixture). These were just rectangular auto running lights. In retrospect I should have purchased marine lights with stainless brackets as these are starting to rust after 3 seasons, but they were cheap and still work.
