Are masts brand specific? 22 size boat?

Looking for a used mast for my O'Day 22. I believe I could used any brand mast as long as it is approx 22 feet. If someone out there has an old mast off a Catalina or MacGreger that might help, please contact me at sailbode@gis.netI tried to post this questions to "All Sailers" earlier today and for some reason the post was removed...maybe it sounded too brand (O'Day specific) for the Forum policeDon

Theoretically....

There is no requirement that you use any particular brand mast. However, your boat was designed for a particular size and weight mast to be supported with a particular size rigging and the installed deck/structure hardware, and to carry a suit of sails of a particular size. Mess too much with any of those factors, and you could have an unsafe situation. I know Oday used Kenyon masts and booms for a lot of their boats; you could check on their website. If it turns out they outfitted the original for your model and year, you can get the specs and try and match them to a used stick.
