I have a 1979 Catalina 27 with all four bulkheads rotted. I know I need to replace the bulkheads that the chainplates are attached to, but are the two forward bulkheads really necessary for support of the deck? It seems the molded deck and hard headliner are so solid, that I wouldn't think the fore bulkheads matter. Also, these bulheads are just screwed in with no tabbing, in fact none of the bulkheads have tabbing. I have read some of the other threads about bulkhead replacement, but any infomation, guidance or additional tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well........ if it were me I would call Catalina Yachts and ask them... after all you're talking about somthing structural so you need to talk to the builders. The number is available at www.catalinayachts.com
Forward bulkhead mostly removed
My 1976 cat 27 std, i removed most to open up the vberth, just left enough for the wet locker port, and just left about 3 inches on the starboard side. it seems fine, i cant see how it is structural
I think you should leave and or replace them. Support is pretty important and I would bet they are pretty important to the boats design
The answer here appears to be that no one has the answer. After having removed a couple bulkheads for various reasons I am clueless as to their purpose other than cosmetics in this particular boat design
