I just got "done" priming my hull. I bought this primer because it was touted as being ideal for water based ablative. I will go on record as saying this product is the worst paint product I have EVER used, bar none. Ten minutes of power stirring and it comes out as thick as cake batter and as clumpy as can be. Dries almost instantly when exposed to air so the clumps start pealing off the roller too. Then it doesn't cover worth beans. I'll have to sand the entire hull again just to get the clumps off. This was supposed to be, prime, wait two hours, paint. Not any more!

If others have had better results, please post to counter my bad press, but I just HAD to tell my story.

I'm curious about how the Aquaguard paint covers and adheres to older Interlux

had a thought about he primer

Could it have clumped up due to the temperature (or other atmospherical condition)?

It's been to cold to use anything I can think of as 50 F during 24 hours. Is the minium of most any paint

The paint was stored in my kitchen, much to the chagrin of my lovely bride. Outside temperature was approaching 60 degrees as I began to paint. The second can I power stirred for a solid 10 minutes with the same results. SO after it dried I did a quick sand to get all the clumps smooth, washed it down and bottom painted with Hydrocoat. Looks great!

I've never used the Aquaguard primer but I have used their water based ablative for years. It sprays or rolls on very well and forms a good surface that can easily be burnished for a super smooth finish. My suggestion would be to contact Joe at Aquaguard and ask his advise. I found him to be extremely helpful. 888 353 9335
