is it due to the exposure to a lead keel and/or exposed steel in a damaged rudder post? Or is it possibly due to reverse polarity in the marina or someone’s boat tied up in that marina? The few AC ckts that are aboard might have a broken common line and running to ground through the hull fittings, but how about the DC ckts; are they possible culprits? Who knows what evil lurks in the dark of the below decks? Could he be the spirit of Dank, son of Doom?

First we bond (or not!)

Frank, Even the "experts" disagree on the best galvanic protection practices. The ABYC says not to bond the thru-hulls to avoid corrosion then says bond the thru-hulls for lightning protection. What to do? Check the article below. Suggested reading: "Boatowner's Mechanical & Electrical Manual: How to Maintain, Repair, and Improve Your Boat's Essential Systems" - Nigel Calder Long name; great reference. Very thorough. You won't know how you lived without it. "Sailboat Electrics Simplified" - Don Casey A good beginner book. Happy sails *_/), MArk
