Does anyone have a Roman/Greek ancient ceremony to get the wind gods on my side?

Every time I see wind forecast 10-15 I get into the Gulf and it is 3-5 knots:doh:

Every time I am berthing stern in... wind goes to 10-15 against my beam, then dies to 3-5 when docked.:doh:

It is not land effects or my Captainship.

WedThursFriday is going on?

PS: I found a ceremony to change a boat's name with Poseidon and Neptune.

I'll bet the ceremony involves copious amounts of wine, virgins and music.

I/'d recommend some new light wind sails for the wind and practice for the docking. The First mate and I have a similar problem of always beating to windward no matter where we go. The light wind sails helped a lot.

All I know for sure, and I learned it many many years ago, is that if becalmed the surest way to get a gale (or more) is to whistle for the wind.
I also learned something about the calm before the storm, a few months later.

Get a Torqeedo electric outboard. You won't be sailing but its so quiet that you can pretend that you are.

Ok! What whistle is for more winds and which to slow them down?

I can't whistle theme for "Gone with the Winds", so how about "Anchors Aweigh!"?

Yep, sure. I use my wet finger anemometer to calibrate the wind gauge.:)

I still need some Latin words or sumptin.

PS: I was going to sacrifice a chicken by buying a KFC family bucket?

Laughing.. James, we didn't (don't) do ceremonies, but we always toss a quarter over and a shot of rum over when leaving for a real trip.. daysailing.. we take what we get..

Well I am off to dare them to a show down. 5-10knots forecast for 3 days. Temp 86 and provisioned boat.

Lets see....

1) Whistle..... Check
2) Rum and a quarter.... check check
3) Wine and Music and the Admiral... check check CHECK
4) Leaving politics on shore.... check check check check
5) Calibrating anemometer.... check
6) Sacrificed baked chicken... check even chicken salad... check
7) Web research.... well nutin to speak of

Ok...

I will feedback the results.

For me the surest way to get more wind is to take down the sails and start the motor.... bam... the wind picks up... turn off the motor, raise the sails.... bam... calm. Almost never fails.:neutral:

The surest way to calm the wind is to have your motor die of ethanol poisoning. Immediately the wind dies, and refuses to come back leaving you becalmed for many hours as the sun sets and you are miles from land.

Oh yeah... been there except for me it was a gear in the lower unit that decided to give up the ghost about 4 miles from the landing.... and it was cold out ... and I had 4 young kids on the boat...and the sun was going down... me and another dad spend hours with paddles.... at least I had paddles. Eventually a guy saw us from shore and came and gave us a tow.

Sounds like most of you need to do what I am seeking... "title of post"

Here is an update...

Gulf forecast 5-10knts for the LD weekend. It was kinda right...

Winds changed from S to NE ( unforecast ) overnight and went to 15.

Second day was ok but headed back in an into a violent storm. 30 knots winds, 4 foot seas , lightening, blinding rain and a distant water spout. yeeeeee hawwwww


I forgot the quarter toss and slug of rum....:doh:

Looks like the wind gods are still angry.:evil:
I even sacrificed a bucket of KFC chicken.
