Anyone using the Uniden 525 VHF?

Brad, a Uniden Polaris (similar to the 525) with a WAM mike came with the boat. It's mounted in the cabin at the nav station and the WAM mike is used at the pedestal. After a full season with it I am very happy with this combination. Only after a friend's boat was hit by lightening, which took out the antenna and VHF did I purchase a hand-held as a back up to the Uniden set-up. S/V Intrepid H34 #113

I just put this radio in my boat after buying the oceanic and realizing that the WHAM I bought was only for the 525. The WHAM for the 525 has a better & more permanent charging tray, so I upgraded the radio rather than moving down in WHAM. My WHAM is positioned at the top of the companionway and is easily hard wired through the lights in the head and to the breakers. The 525 will also take NMEA info from a GPS, and transmit that info on the distress signal. Additionally, it will display a boat in distress on your GPS. The larger display will show coordinates so finding your position down below will be easy.
