Lake Mead

Lake Mead is great - tailered my Mac26X there a couple of summers ago and had a ball. Lived aboard for 4 days. Launched her at Echo Bay Marina in the Overton arm. I would check with them about launching facilities Re: the recent drought - hopefully that ramp is still usable. Once you get out on the water, depths are in the 200'-300'range. Find a little cove on the shore for anchoring in the evening - you'll still be anchoring in 20'+ of water. If you go before July or August, take your wetsuit if you're planning to get in the water. Echo Bay has great facilities - don't miss Lake Mead! Andrew Mylander, DMD "Highspeed"

Sail Magazine

There was a pretty good article in a Sail mag a few months back by Herb Payson. He described the lake at about 20' below normal and they had to dredge canals to the boat ramp so launching a C250 was pretty tough. You might also check out the National Parks Service web page on the lake (link below) My wife used to live in Vegas and the only other advice she has is don't go there in the summer time. Jim

Tom..We live in Ls Vegas, and as the other posts

indicated the lake is near record low levels. The entire Lake Meade Marina was moved (with the boats still in their slips)2 miles. Echo is on the verge of closing. If you do get it launched most of the back bays that are so great to anchor in are gone replaced by dry cracked lake bottom. It is believed the lake will continue to drop for the remainder of the year. If want to e-mail me at McKee119@hotmail.com before you come up I'll let you know the latest.
