Anyone sailed San Juans?

Elaborating on previous post about keeping boat north

If you only have six days, you might consider taking your boat to Anacortes the weekend before your cruise. Then, you will be right there - it is a quick and easy trip from Anacortes into the islands. Plus, a two day prep cruise from Everett to Anacortes is actually very nice, with lovely lunch and overnight options: Langley, Oak Harbor, Coupeville, LaConner, and Anacortes itself. This year I think we will reposition our boat a weekend or two before like this - it always takes us two days to get to the San Juans from Edmonds.

If anyone else has input, I'm taking it all in. First, I'm gonna' take 10 days instead of 6, and the prepositioning idea is priceless; I'll do that for sure. Give me more ideas. Anybody been to Skull Island?

I reckon I got lucky to find a slip at Skyline.

My Winter slip just got sold and the fellow that bought it was renting the slip next to mine. We just swapped and now I have a year round slip and it's a one hour sail to the islands and four to Friday Harbor. How sweet is that?

Depending upon your interests will help to determine other possibilities. Do you prefer to anchor out or marina life? Hiking in the woods or walking around town? Seeing sites or hanging out in the local pub? Terry

You never said, but I assume both. You also never said what time of year. If your going in the summer making reservation at the marinas ahead of time can save you some hassle if you come in late. I always liked Stuart Island, either Prevost Harbor or Reid Harbor.

We sailed to Friday Harbor last weekend

and they had lots of guest slips available on W dock. Plenty of anchorage available too.
