I just came back from the BEER cruise off Pensacola. What a great time! There were about 50 boats and wonderful weather and wind. I noticed on one Mac 26X a Honda 2000 generator. The specs on this generator look great and at only about 50 pounds loaded would not be too hard to handle on a sailboat. We keep a small 6000 btu airconditioner mounted in the companionway when we are docked at our marina, but it sure would be nice to have it operational when the temperature gets above 90 degrees and we are off somewhere. I understand there is some danger from carbon monoxide when running an engine while anchored. Does anyone out there have any experience with running small generators on their 260/26's? Thanks for all advice and help.

I run a Honda 1000ie to run a 40 amp True Charger, 2000 watt inverter, 5.2 k BTU Mermain Marine reverse cycle AC unit, and 3 type 31 Gel Batteries for good measure (not all at the same time), (LOL)not bad for a 260. sometime I run the gen in the anchor well fwd and other times back aft on the stbd side, depends on what I'm doing and where I'm sleeping that night.

Good choice
I use the honda 2000 on my 26. It is extremely quite and efficient. I float it on the dingy for 0 vibration, noise and exhaust. I run my 6000 btu A/C, battery charger and complete entertainment setup for the evening. With the eco-throttle she runs at low rpms. With 1 gallon of fuel running from 8:30 P.M. she finnaly cuts out around 4 A.M. by then the batteries are fully charged and you are still thawing from under the blankets. Go with the EU2000 and you wont have to operate at near full capcity like with the 1000, should last longer too! Also during last years hurricanes I used it to power my fridge and TV for 4 days straight. deffently worth its price.

I used a honda EU1000 on my powerboat for 2 or 3 years until the generator was stolen (not off the boat). I then upgraded to the 2000 and have been using that on my H260. I almost wish I had the 1000 again because it's smaller size would allow it to fit nicely on the starboard side back by the engine and I only have my charger to power, for the most part. The 2000 is a little to fat to fit there. It's nice to have the extra power though just in case. Just FYI, according to Xantrex, the EU1000 is a little too small to run a TrueCharge 40. It would really push the limit IF the charger was putting out its full 40 amps of DC current. The AC to DC conversion is not 100% efficient so it draws a bit more than you might think. I second the other recommendation to make sure you install a carbon monoxide detector. Don't take any chances! There was a review that I saw online that compared the Yamaha to the Honda and found that the Yamaha had a higher quality power output. I'd still go with the Honda though - especially since it's a bit quieter and the sine wave difference was trivial.
