I sent in a resume for a job and was rejected because the commute is a tad too far for them. I am going to keep bugging them till she says no. But having an address in the area would help. Hey, it's worth a shot. The company is Presher's Tools....inventory manager. I thought if I got the job, I could buy a cheap boat to live on and shower at the YMCA or some other place.

I'm confused

I sent in a resume for a job and was rejected because the commute is a tad too far for them. (Who is 'them' and why would they have to commute to you?) I am going to keep bugging them till she says no. ( I thought if you were rejected, they did say 'no') ' Forgive me , I'm new here, but what is this about? I guess I missed something earlier.

Didn't you want

a marina manager's job in a previous post? Are you looking for someone to provide an address for you in Ft Myers? What happened to Tom's Foolery your 1976 Irwin 37' center cockpit that you need to buy a cheap boat? If it was me, I would be leary allowing someone to use my address for who knows what. Just my idle thoughts.

This gets weirder by the minute

You were rejected for a job but want to 'stalk' until they confirm that you REALLY didnt get the job?..... because you dont believe you were rejected? Now you want someone to give you a Fort Meyers address? And then you want to buy a cheap boat to live on when you already own a 37 Irwin. Then you want to shower at the YMCA when just about every marina has bathrooms and showers for the tenents? Please....dont Bogart that joint, pass it around. Tony B

And you guys call yourselves sailors?

My gut instincts about Letterman is that he is a multitalented very decent dude. He has contributed much to this forum. He very clearly stated in his earlier post that he needed a job. Most of us know what that feels like. I am a complete stranger to him and he went out of his way to answer an off line inquirery I made to him about Irwin boats. Im not trying to go too dramatic here but he is a fellow sailor who deserves respect. Letterman at most of the small mom and pop hotels that still exist in SW Fla. the managers are fairly laid back. You could stay in one for a couple days to scout the area. I am sure for a couple bucks they could give you a short term local mailing address. Good luck. Lance

Yikes

I still have the Irwin, and two other boats. It is not uncommon up here to have more than one, for different purposes. Yes, I am looking for a marina job. I am also qualified to do accounting, inventory control, and many other things. I am a sailor too! I was just looking for a houseboat or beater to live on in the backwaters of the Caloosahatchee river. But I see apartments are only $800 or so. I'm curious. Just what do you think I would do with an address anyway? I suppose one could send ill gotten stuff there, but that is not me. Sorry. As for sailortonyballiedmistress (what are you, an Indian?), apparently you were never in sales. It takes 6 closes to sell something, on average (I sold life insurance and did estate planning for a while and went through lots of training). I figure a no isn't a no till I say it's a no. As for this job, piece of cake for me. I'd be perfect, except the 1300 mile commute. THAT would sort of hurt. Yes I could shower at a marina, but I don't know of any in the area, yet. I have a place to stay after the snowbirds leave her rental house and it has room in back for a 40' boat, but, you can't live on it there. Any more questions?

Letterman, with the current economic situation

jobs down here in Florida are not keeping pace with the population. The competion for jobs has become pretty fierce. Employers in the state receive every year a good number of applications from people who would like to move to Florida. The problem is that the experience these employers have had has not been the best with out of state applicants. A rather large number of them are just testing the waters and don't follow through. Those that are fortunate to get interviews often do not show up. A good number of those that come down and have a good chance of perhaps getting hired just turn around and go home when they find out that the salaries down here are low by other state standarts. The way to do it is in person. Plan to come down here for a week, line up interviews. Make one of your first interviews to contact an employment agency as they will let you use their local address and help you with mail and communications. The fees of the employment agencies are usually paid by the employer so it will be of no cost to you. Florida has a high transit population an employers rely very much on verifiable references. If references are unknown and hard to verify they will not go much out of their way to do it. So come down, bring your resume and backup documentation. Make the object of any phone communications to get an appointment or interview. The low key approach works best. Basically whats gets you the job will be the resume and you are just there in person to complete the package and validate your desire to get the job. Perhaps if you call that lady at that company in Ft. Myers and tell her that you are calling to get an appointment to go there in person and interview for the job, then perhaps you may get your foot on the door. You have to show that you are serious before you can expect to be taken seriously. Good Luck.

Some stuff to look into

in DC there is the new national harbor and the gangplank of course. the waiting list for liveaboards is quite long at the gangplank. the national harbor is new and I don't know if they allow liveaboards. Not too many marinas in the DC area allow liveaboards. The river south of Ft Belvoir (Occoquan?? sp) Out on the bay there are innumerable opportunities, Harrington harbor is within commuting distance to DC. there is even a metro stop on the outer belt so you don't have to fight the traffic over the Wilson bridge.
