have excellent windsurfing rentals ... Maui is the best place on earth to windsurf ... That will satisfy you sailing fix! The south shore may be more benign.

They used to sail an old Americas Cup boat out of Lahaina on day charters. You might check around and see if it's still going. Pretty big boat and I'm not sure how "hands on" it would be but it might be fun anyway.

Sail on Seasmoke?
Many years ago I sailed on a cat named Seasmoke, an ocean racing rig converted to a dive boat. It once belonged to James Arness as you might expect from the name. Not long ago I saw a picture of the Kannapalli(sp?) shoreline and it looked like Seasmoke was anchored there. We did about fifteen knots across the channel to a dive site, what a rush!

But they don't put the sails up very often. They go whale watching and is a very tired boat. There was a H54 here but has moved over to the big island. Can't do windsurfing, bad shoulder.... I know stop whinning - Your in Maui.

Go to www.sailmaui.com and book a trip on Paragon. We went in 2003 on the Molokini snorkel trip and had a blast. They really sail this thing, its not one of those big motor cats with a tiny mast so they can call it a sailboat. You can help sail it and they let me steer it too. We were doing 14+ knots in the afternoon trade winds off Maui, what a blast! Have fun, Tim

We have a condo in Kihei and have seen them on the way over to Mokoini in the morning. Will let you know if it works.

Went out on Paragon 2 today
Winds from east at 10kts, nice beam reach over to the snorkeling area and back. Sailing was great. Had some whales surface about 50-100 ft from us, neat animals. Ahhhh to be on the water again....
