Up here, it's hard water season so I want to live vicariously through those of you that have the option to sail on Christmas day. Anyone planning on it? Where? Temp? I personally will be skiing at a place overlooking Lake Superior the day before X-mas all the while, dreaming of sailing. Give me some details!

Yes, for sure sometime between one holiday and the next I will be sailing my H27 on Bellingham Bay. The biggest decision is deciding upon the weather pattern and finding the right day(s) with the least rain. Daytime temperature so far is between the upper forties to mid fifties. Southerly winds from ten to fifteen knots.....just right.

Wish you were here!

Yes, SF bay daytime temperature projected to be 55 F all weekend. Christmas day projected to have 20 - 30 kt wind from the SE with rain and isolated thunderstorms. Sunday projected to have 5 - 15 kt winds from the SW with chance of showers. My dodger is up and I will be wearing my foul weather gear.

It's only going to be 70 with light wind so might not go out. Kind of cold LOL

Never live where it gets colder than your age

No plans to sail Xmas, but its tradition for two of our local clubs to have a sail outing on the Elizabeth River on New Years Day. Its a tradition that the Portsmouth Yacht Club has hosted for years. The event is supposed to bring good luck and a safe and enjoyable sailing season for the year. Just in case, bloody marys and black eyed pea soup is available to those who want to maximize the luck prophecy. LOL.

We meet for a brunch at 10AM, munch a bunch and at Noon the New Years sail proclamation is read and we all jump on our boats and head for the river. The sail usually lasts at least an hour or so, longer if the weather cooperates.

For me this will be one of the few non-sailing winters in a long time. But .... since the lakes in Penna. have frozen with CLEAR flat ice this year, Im sharpening up my skates and Im in the process of cobbling-up a 'breadboard' kite-wing.

Well that's what happens when developers build in a flood plain.(Misssion Valley) Sooner or later it's gonna flood. All that water has to go somewhere.
