Looking for my 1st boat in the 15' to 20' range that I can trailer and launch at the boat slip. Any thoughts on the Hunter 19? Any other suggestions on boat type? Thanks for the input!

Hello Star2Lee & Welcome to SBO discussions,
+1 for dlochner's recommendation of the Flying Scot. I have been considering the purchase of one myself. Check C-list and sailboatlistings in Florida because some are there now.

Another beautiful day sailer to consider is a Celebrity Class boat. 19ft 6in length with enough wood to please the eyes and light enough to be pulled, rigged, launched, and retrieved by those of us who are advancing in years. We owned two of them over the years and I think they are the most distinctively beautiful small boat afloat! Of course "beauty is in the eye of the beer holder!"

Belated thought......We have considered a H170, but I am concerned for two situations. (1) what seems to be an open transom might be an invitation to lose items that were brought aboard although the seating looks adequate and comfortable. (2) several boats have shown cracks in the gel coat that were more than the occasional "crazing" at sharp angles. On the positive side....with no wood there would not be any varnish of Cetol upkeep.

How do you plan to use the boat. The Hunter 19 has a nice cuddy cabin for the occasional overnight on the hook. The flying scott is a great go-fast day sailor but it is a day sailor. It is probably hard to know exactly how you will want to use a boat until you actually have one and if you are sure day sailing is what you are going to do, then that opens a lot of options for you. A Hobi 16 or 18 would be a great choice if that is the case.
I have a Hobie 16 that I day sail and it is super fast and will sail even in the lightest puff of wind.

But if you think you want to do a little "boat camping" or light cruising in your boat then I would also recommend that you look at

MacGregor V21, V22-2, 26D or 26S. (NOT THE 26x OR 26m)

Rhodes 22 (one of my favorites) http://www.usedrhodes.com/

Happy hunting!

Thank you for taking the time to provide this input! I have sailed some Scots but yes, no cabin and day sail only for sure.... The look of like a Com Pac 16 etc does provide that. At this point I am thinking of day sail use... Thank you for the links which I will Definately look at!
