What a great idea!

I love it, and wish that something like that was available on my little lake.It took me several years to sail comfortably on my Flying Scot on my lake with all the rules and regs. Moving up to a Hunter 23, with motor, and lights, etc, adds a whole new can of worms. Mooring, registrations, flares, hornes, lots of details. I would love to talk to someone about all this, without worry about being written up and fined. I want my boat to be right, and safe. Hats off to you guys who volunteer to do this! Makes me want to get involved.

enforcing no wake zone - sometimes

The marina I am is very close to a bridge that is a no-wake zone (about 100 yards to each side) and the only thing I have seen the water cops do consistantly is enforce the no-wake zone. Not that they do it all the time, but weekends and holiday weekends they are usually to be seen. I understand that they are also spending some time inspecting fish catches, because the gulf fisheries are closed for certain species - popular fish like grouper are off-limits for weeks or months at a time.

First time in over 20 years...

of sailing I was boarded by the CG and inspected. No problems were found, but what they told me was that there has been an increase in general of recreational boaters on the water and during the beginning of the season inspections they found so many boats in violation that they have increased their number of safety inspection boardings that they perform. It was pretty painless, about 45 minutes and then got a sticker to prevent another "non-incident" safety inspection.

Water Ballast/Holding Tank

I was contacted by the harbormaster a couple of years ago. I had hauled my MacGregor 26X and was draining the water ballast. A tourist asked where all the water was coming from. I told him my holding tank was full so I was dumping it out. I guess he wnt to the harbormaster.
