A sailor's life for me.....

I'm new to sailing and can't seem to find a complete list on what exactly I'm required to have on board a 36' sailboat. I've tried the Coast Guard web site and can't find it. I know that I need PFD's but what else? Thanks!

The Coast Guard has a list......

..... go to their web site and drill down to find what you need. Keep in mind you will most likley be a Powerboat by definition. Also, the coast Guard Auxillary or local boating enforcement will do a courtesy exam. They encourage boaters to participate by NOT turning in any violations.....they just give you a list of what you need, need to update, or need to replace. If starting from scratch, make sure you have the appropriate amount of Boat Units. Good luck......Jeff

among other places, there is a list somewhere on the boatus.com site which will likely include: PFDs fire extinguisher(s) Flares distress sig device anchor & rode bilge pump flashlight tools nav lights sound device first aid kit compass VHF etc...

The requirements are the same for a 27' or 36' boat. California may have additional requirements. http://www.sailboatowners.com/forums/pviewall.tpl?fno=122&uid=73209962811&SKU=2005051151548.90
