Ed, she does look lonely......

however,

When I get a burr in my saddle to head for florida for a week this winter....
I'll leave my hunter in Edmonds, WA open for ya for a frosty cruise....A simple boat switch should suffice.......

what.....
you want to use it in the san juans during the first week in August......??

Seriously, I havent checked down there. But I know several ex sailboat owners /maintainers up here who have switched to power boats... and still jump at the chance to check out and use their friends sailboats in the fall and winter and spring (Our windy seasons). For some reason, it is hard for them to be off a sailboat for too long.

must be some of those types throughout Florida. Seems I am contributing to the use and maintenance of 3 or 4 sailboats in any given month.

Good luck

Lonely boat

It kills me that my boat sits idle in Florida, 1000 miles away. And the chances of getting down there are slim.
Ed, remind us again just why you moved the boat down there? Tradeoff: pulling her for the winter vs leaving her in the water!

be nice to Ed

I am sure Ed brought her down here for the adventure and a chance to winter in a sailors paradise. The winter sailing is great. He can't get down here- and being nice thought it would be cool to share his beautiful boat with someone.

Re: be nice to Ed

Ed, I have concluded that sometimes all you can do is write off a season when you can't make it to the boat. It doesn't mean that you don't still love sailing or the boat or that you have to give it up, as long as you can afford it.

Insurance is a concern

It kills me that my boat sits idle in Florida, 1000 miles away. And the chances of getting down there are slim. So I am considering letting people use her. It's not about the money, I just want Ladylove out there. So what do you think? What are the issues? Is insurance one? Captain or bareboat? I have friends in Florida that would be great captains if they had the time. What precipitated this? I put my Highlander on the trailer yesterday.
For me - the biggest issue was the cost of the insurance. My boat had been part of a local charter fleet and had "gone out" with paying customers a couple of times. When I bought her - I considered continuing with that fleet. The insurance was prohibitedly expensive and I could not see recouping my investment with only a couple of charters. Hope this helps. Let a couple of friends use it!!!

I've go t a friend who has a 37 CSY. He does not sail but uses the boat as a "dock-side condo". As you know a boat will fall apart from lack of use. So he has a couple of friends who are good sailors but don't have a boat. He put them on the insurance as insured users. The boat gets used, and his insurance cost has not gone up. They also pay for the fuel, and help with the dock fees. It seems to be a "win - win" for all of them.
