Anyone been to Boater's World?

The location in Olympia is in their last 10 days. They still have a fair amount of clothing and some electronics. Overall, they're down to about half of the original square footage, the rest is taped off, and most of the fixtures are sparsely stocked at best.

I went yesterday to the Annapolis BW store. The shelves are getting bare, but I found a cardboard pot of gold in the form of an anchor chain. The barrel said 5/16 HT,144 feet for 144 dollars. I asked if I could lay it out to make sure it was about that long. Another guy snapped and said it was just measured the day before. I wanted to make sure it was one piece since there is a no-return policy. A quick pacing of the layed-out chain passed muster so I bought it for 1/4 of Bacon's price of 3.85 a foot. Back home when I laid it out to mark it I found they were 32 feet off in their measurement- it was 176 feet. Those guys just can't get anything right :dance:

Not much left, bankruptcy "management" not much help. I feel bad for the crew. I bought a GPS/Sonar chart plotter there a few weeks ago and want to buy the extra transducer/power cable they had it set up with on the counter. The guy in electronics wants to sell it to me and he's been holding it for me but can't get the @#$@# manager to give him a price so I can have it.

Waterford Ct. store is down to less the 15% of their normal stock. I bought some new tank /fuels line connections for the outboard saved a couple of dollars but not what I would call a "bargain" except that I needed them. Only real bargain saw was on wiring and wire at 80% off but only a bargain if you need it . I asked when the final day was and the store person told me they did not know ??? Something about stock in warehouse ?? Bottom line not much reason to go back.........
I'm surprised. I don't have a BW near me, but the other bankruptcy sales around here are run by a liquidation company. They buy the whole inventory for about 50¢ on the dollar, then keep the prices the same or drop them 10% and advertise the snot out of their "sale". They even pay chumps to stand on corners of intersections doing tricks with a pole full of fluorescent "SALE" signs. No real bargains to be had, just a lot of ticked off bargain hunters stepping on eah other. Happy, happy, joy, joy
I called the Hampton store asking about a depth sounder, the lady on the phone was short and rude with me. I was in the neighborhood but didn't bother stopping in. To be honest, I never had too many good experiences there. I was in WM (Hampton) on Friday and I don't know if I have had better service lately than I received there, it was encouraging.
Yes - in New Jersey - got the last barbi for 60% off. Store very picked through - not much left - now, West Marine will rule us all !

I got two 90 foot spools of 12 gauge tinned wire for $9.00 each. Both are brown but with a simple electrical system like mine, who cares?
The rest of the store was severly picked through. Not much left at all...

I stopped by the BW in Brandon FL, and they had a whole shelf full of sailing gear. The funny thing is that they have NEVER had any sailing gear there before. They had gotten a shipment from a store in California that had already closed.
I picked up the two blocks that I need for my new mainsheet. Ronstan 40 series doubles, one with a cam cleat, 4 new battens, a Weems and Plath rolling chart ruler and a Weems and Plath 6" divider, and three cheek blocks to rig my boom with single line reefing. All of the hardware and charting instruments out the door for 62.00. I also picked up a half dozen cans of butane for my portable stove for 2 bucks a can.

They have a BW in Madison, AL. It first opened up about 5 or 6 months ago. Though I complain about BW's prices, it was nice to have them in my locale. I will miss them.
I bought the largest dock box they had and a 9.4' dinghy. The prices were comparable to what you could find on the internet but I didn't have to pay shipping and they were items I would have bought anyway.
While in the store I couldn't help to notice that the only fenders they had to sell were ~6 feet in length and the width of a large tree. The only boats in N. AL that could use fenders of that size are the comercial tugs--and they don't use yacht fenders. Go figure.
