Nope... It's a handle to lift a 6V golf cart battery with.

If you have 6 volt batteries (maybe even some 12 volts ones) you should see two raise slots on the top of the battery that the ends of this handle fit into.

If you buy a 6 volt battery, be sure to ask for a handle with it.

Silly me

I thought it was a skyhook. If indeed it's a handle for golf cart batteries, that raises the question: Why are golf cart batteries on a big sailboat instead of the real things?

Thanks all. I think i only have 12v batteries on the boat, but will check. I was rather hoping it was a way of attaching a boomvang to the boom - there was a boomvang in another drawer, but there doesn't seem to be any fixture on the boom to attach it to

Great

Great and a very good handle when lifting batteries in tight spots

Stan is correct. It's a handle to lift a 6V golf cart battery. I have four Trojan 6 volt batteries in my '77h30. The reason I use GC batteries is that they are built heavy, hold 225 amp hours each and last a long time with proper care. I generally get up to 7-9 years of service from them. One negative is their height, but four fit comfortably in the compartment under the port quarter berth. Cable two in series and you get 12 volts with 225 ahs. I have two sets of 2, 6 volt batteries going to their own selector switch. I can switch between house 1 or house 2 or combine both for 450 ahs. This selector switch is connected to the #1 selector switch on my panel. # 2 is for the starting battery which is a 12 volt. With this configuration, I can run either or all house, just starting, or combine all batteries if needed.

Thanks all. Looks like i need to investigate my batteries a bit further...I have a start battery sited on top of the house battery bank which is in the shower sump. House battery bank is wired to my DC panel, start battery to the starter motor via On/Off switch. There is a battery combiner that links the batteries when they are being charged by the alternator

Duality, don't be so hard on yourself. Actually, your thinking was not so bad. Looking at it from that angle, I can see how this strap could do double duty as a lift up and a hold down. Thanks for the different perspective.
