Anyone add a crusing spinnaker?

I was wondering if anyone on here has added a cruising spinnaker to their H260? Is it possible to do so with a furler in place as well?

Darren, do you have anything in front of...

your furler, like a bow roller, to attach the spin tack sheet? Since the 260 is a fractional rig do you have a spare sheave on the leading edge of the mast head to run the spin halyard? If so, then it sounds doable. Check out the sail loft of this site for asym spin rigging, launching and dousing. Terry

Halyard for headasil still there...

My furler is actually (hard)tied to the top already. So, I have always had my head-sail halyard available. Will I be able to handle some sort of spinnaker single-handed (with autopilot assistance)? Thanks, Darren

Handling an Akite

...is very easy. It flies like an oversize genny. Only difference is you can't tack. You must jibe an akite. Your spinn sheets need to be 2 times the boat length. You cannot use a headsail halyard for any spinnaker. After you get it up and flying you'll be amazed how easy it all is and the increased boat speed will make it much more fun sailing.

OK... I am convinced...but...

Can someone who has added a spinnaker to a 260 tell me what additional hardward is needed?

Stars

Darren - I got educated on how to set up and fly this sail by searching the internet. Most sail makers offer advice. Try Neil Pryde Sails for starters (link below). Gregg - My wife designed the sail and Ullman Sails in Ventura, California built it. Good people to work with. If you contact them I know they will remember the sail because they rigged it on a boat (in a slip) just to take pictures for their records.

Parts List

Spinnaker halyard parts list Parts List 1) Rotating block 2) Pad eye 3) Halyard exit plates (2) 4) Cam cleet Mount the pad eye a 18" above the point where the headstay attaches to the mast. Hang the rotating block from the pad eye. Cut a slot in the mast below the pad eye. Install (1) exit plate. Install the second exit plate about 7' above the deck and the cam cleet at chest level. Run the halyard. Add to this a block at the bow to adjust your tack line and a pair of snatch blocks for the spinnaker sheets.

As I mentioned in my first reply there are...

several good articles on this site in the sail chandlery. That was my source for hardware, installing, setting up, launching, etc. Terry
