I'm curious about this style of anchor and would greatly appreciate any information you can provide. Bottom line, do they work? are they rugged?

anchor

The 45 deg fluke-stock angle would likely be best suited for mud bottoms. Never used one, but, FWIW, I don’t much like the look, and the 2:1 scope claim is pure ‘bull’. Gord

I have a Chene

I am very interested in responses from someone that actually has one of these anchors and has real life experience using it. I have a Chene and I have only used it once as I don't anchor much (I day sail/lake sail). Also, the lake I normally sail in is 850 feet deep with very steep sides...makes for one heck of a long rode...but the 2:1 rode ratio of the Chene becomes a LOT more attractive at this depth! ;-)

lake in Idaho over 1100' deep

Pend Oreille lake in northern Idaho is over 1100(1300+?) feet deep and the US NAvy at one time had a sub & sonar testing station there..now the old sub port is called Farragut State Park. There are three of those glacial lakes up there in the very northern tip, some of the best sailing and fishing you can imagine, but omigawd that water is cooooooold!

C'mon guys, get real! You're not going to anchor in 850 feet of water--that much rhode would fill up the whole bow berth of your boat, and the chain would sink it... Chene anchors belong to a class of anchors that are favored by fresh-water fishermen in inland lakes. The chief design features the manufacturers are aiming for is ease of removal; the boats they are used on tend to be small and without windlasses, and the fishermen need to anchor and then move frequently as part of the fishing activity. A large Chene may be strong enough for a large sailboat, but since it's designed for easy removal that may not be what you want to use to keep a larger boat from dragging overnight. Use anchors for their intended purpose and you won't get into too much trouble.
