Anybody recognize these boats?

My wife and I just bought these two boats- the small blue one is a circa 1958 LynCraft 1900 Contessa, we think. It is going to need a lot of TLC, as the interior being all plywood has gone soft. It would actually take a 100 HP outboard, according to Mercury, but I am thinking of just a 25-50 HP. We would appreciate any information anybdy has on this.

The sailboat has NO ID number , but does have an 80 and a large "V -24 " on the mainsail, with an almost solid aluminum furler, with a steel shaft with bearings top and bottom. Very distinct rudder, also.

Any info on THAT would be greatly appreciated also. This had what looked like an old ham radio in the stern......

The sailboat was just chopped up - it had hit a bridge or something: the mast was bent, the tabernacle cabin mount fiberglass was cracked all the way around for 18 inches, and the interior decks were very soft. We salvaged all of the hardware though, and are looking for a buyer. The boom is still OK. The rotten wood and mold inside was just too much,but I did feel badly as I sawzalled it up.

Looks like a Venture 24 to me. Probably early 70's. Some had the hull number inside the boat on a hull stringer sort of looks like numbers punched with a nail into the fiberglass.

Going to eBay the parts???

I once bought a project day cruiser, with a 90 hp Evinrude ( I think) on the transom. A Sea-Fair Sedan, I think. Anyway,I never got around to restoring, it had issues.I cut it up with a sawzall and as I was loading the waste into the hauler,I saw the data plate. serial #0001. I really felt bad, then.

It's definetly a circa late 60's V-24. Usually Sail # and Hull # were the same on Ventures. If you have hull # 80 you have a classic. Looks pretty sad. Hope you fine a good home for the parts. Lots of people looking for keels. Rgranger, Don't think the stern pulpit off a 24 will fit a V-22. V-24 was wider. Fair Winds and Full Sails...

Ritdog, just out of curiosity, what is your motivation with the purchase of these boats? To part out? You say you bought them. Do you mind disclosing how much and what you expect to get from the subsequent part sales?

Hello all-

Hi Tim! we are fellow Casco Bayers. We had "Room 25" a 25-foot Oday 1977 on East End till the hurricane.

My wife is actually thinking of starting a marine salvage parts business, so this was our first foray into the field, trying to get a feel for the problems, methodology, etc.

Cost of BOTH boats was $50.

The Venture was really fried, so while we felt badly slicing it up, it had to go. The original owner is selling his house, and the trailer it was on could not be moved. The boat was unrepairable. Mast bent, cabin cracked. Open to the weather for 7 years.... Hull # 315.

It took 3 days of really nasty fiberglass cutting in the recent 80-degree days. It took me an hour with a lint roller to get the glass out of my skin, a shower, then another half an hour with the roller. My bunny suit was a sauna in the sun....couldn't do it.

We ARE looking to sell the parts- we took everything, just in case. All the deck hardware, gudgeons, rudder hardware.

The little blue boat is why we bought the whole thing. It has a plywood interior , which is totally gone, as is the deck- I think it has wooden frame members, which from the bouncy feel of the deck are gone too. I sat down on the interior settee, and fell through...

I have always wanted a small motor boat, and I LOVE the looks of it. I am going to be working on that project over the winter. Hopefully, you will see it tooling around Casco Bay next summer!

The guy I bought these from also has a 23-foot Sea-Ray fishing cruiser for sale - $50. It has a Mercury V-8 engine in it and no hull cracks , which is proved by the foot of water the engine is sitting in. The cabin has 6" of water in it too. Another total rehab, break-up job.

Ritdog, what happened to "Room 25"?

I used to keep my Pearson over there. My buddie's E34 is still there.

I have often thought that there was a market for marine salvage in Portland. I just never had the time to start anything. May be a bit of a seasonal thing but you can do ebay in the winter.

Hi Tim- we pulled when Irene hit, then the wife decided that we would not have enough time in our schedules to really get any good use of the boat before having to pull it, so we didn't go back in. Grrrrrr..... the weather has been great, for the most part.

The pull was good experience though. I'd made a gin pole to lower the mast, and welded up an extension for the trailer, so as not to get the truck too wet- all worked like a charm, though it took us 6 hours to get out of the parking lot, learning as we went. Beat spending $475 to have it pulled and mast lowered at a boat yard.
