Looking at getting together to get a sun awning while docked or just bite the bullet and have a bimini made - I have a nice dodger in good shape but nothing aft so the cockpit is exposed and heats up quickly as the sun rises. My rear railing just comes around the either side of the cockpit coaming before attaching to the life lines - not much space to attach hardware to the railing - though there is about 14 inches - have to measure it exactly - looking for bimini suggestions - my boat is a 1983 37c - would also like a suggestion for an awning that has a slit in it for the aftstay - if any of you have one like this made perhaps I could buy an additional one from where you bought yours.
Thanks,
Jim

Any reputable canvas shop should be able to make a suitable bimini for your H37C. With your traveler out of the cockpit it can be made with an insert to attach to the dodger. I made my own from a Sailrite kit. With the traveler in the cockpit it is shorter than yours would be. I mounted the brackets on the toerails to get the maximum width. Mine goes twelve or more inches behind the backstay, about even with the rails. That slot is closed with heavy velcro. The main frame matches the angle of the side rails of the pushpit, about six inches forward of them. That takes it behind the backstay. Then there are folding bows, one center and one forward. The forward bow has to be lower than the other two for boom clearance. Not sure if you can make all of that from the attached picture.

Jim, all of the biminis I have had were custom made for the boats I am having one made now for my 37c, but the firm is here in Punta Gorda. Won't help you much. Ask at your yacht club or marina. Get the names of two or three bimini shops. Get references, Get bids.

We had a boom tent, just a big rectangle of sunbrella. Flapped like crazy in a breeze, tie downs to the rail made it a PITA to get out of the cockpit

The bimini on Midnight Sun folds down flush to the deck inside the stern pulpit. To enable this to work, the forward bows have quick releaase pins, and the aft bow is mounted on a track that lets it slide forward when down. It is great having it totally out of the way when we race. The aft bow is also angled so that it doesn't interfere with the winch handles turning full circle. My primaries are Lewmar 46st's and my secondaries are the original lewmar 42st's. they both clear the bimini.
