Anybody else have a bad (medical) reaction using Cetol?

I decided to try out this wonder finish that I keep hearing about called Cetol on my Vic 18 teak. so I laid the pieces all out on the table in my shop, opened the doors, turned on the fan, and proceeded to brush on the first coat. just about the time I was finishing up, I started getting a bit dizzy so I quickly headed outside for some fresh air. moments later I was wreching also. The worst of it lasted a few minutes, and I stayed away from the shop the rest of the day, but still felt crumby all afternoon. Today I gathered up the pieces and placed them on a table outside the shop, donned my high dollar respirator and gloves, and laid a second coat. When I finished the second coat I felt ok, but shortly after removing the mask and gloves I did feel a bit iffy when nearby the drying pieces.
I've done a lot of auto painting over the years in conditions that should have killed me off long ago, but I've never had this kind of reaction to a product before.
So is it just me, or have others had similar reaction to Cetol??

You may have built up sensitivity to certain standard paint chemicals, and you only noticed it with the cetol. I can't work with fiberglass cloth anymore without gloves due to sensitivity to the sizing. I first noticed it on a cheap heavily sized cloth, now I can't even touch the aerospace grades of glass cloth. It would be interesting to see how you do working with auto paint again. Hopefully not too interesting.

By the way, I did all my removable teak this winter with the teak colored cetol and didn't have any reaction, despite using fewer safety measures than you.

Russ,
I have used it several times over the years, sometimes outdoors & sometimes in my garage. I have never had a reaction like yours--not even a headache. Evidently, you must have an intolerance to it. Maybe try using it outdoors only with your organic vapors mask.
I have read of some posters using Cetol in the interior of the boat, which I totally don't understand. I think there are better finishes if one needs to use a finish on the interior. After the reaction that you had, I know that you wouldn't even go there!

Just to the price!

My guess is you've built up a sensitivity. I used to work on cars for a living. No longer do, but toward the end, just a small amount of exhaust in the shop (someone running without a hose on the exhaust) would give me an instant (and pretty severe) headache.

The only reaction I've had to Cetol has not been respiratory, more like visual.

Russ this is not good. No product is worth that type of result. Our health is more valuable then chemical poisoning.
