Any Vegas in Morcambe Bay area?

Greetings! I have been a member of the U.S. Albin Vega organization
for the past two or three years and have been monitoring this site
for about five years. I am finally the proud owner of an Albin Vega -
formerly Owahee II - but with pending name change to Albion II. The
boat is currently located in Oak Harbor, in the state of Washington,
sitting on her trailer. I currently reside in Las Cruces, New Mexico
which makes sailing rather difficult. My intention is to bring her
down here this Fall so that I can make several cosmetic improvements
including repainting the deck ands then return her to Washington next
summer after I retire.
The main reason for sending this message is to inquire from our
British members as to whether there are any Vegas in the Morcambe Bay
area that I may visit next week when back home in Arnside (Cumbria).
Unfortunately I am very late in getting this message out as I leave
for England tomorrow. I will only be home for 9 days. Any contacts
would be appreciated.

Hi Peter

Give me a call when you get to the UK and I will let you have a coupleof
phone numbers. The one I know for sure is Bob Moran who keeps his Vega
close. There is a Vega at Maryport which should be better which is owned
by a fine fellow called Steve Jackson (used to be the coxswain of the
local lifeboat).

I will be away from 8th July for three weeks (Vega IFR) so call before.

My number is 07831 846997 (mobile)

Cheers

Dear Peter,

What a shame! I have just moved my Vega from Glasson Dock on the Lune to Conwy in North Wales. However if you're interested in coming to Conwy to see the boat, let me know. I live in Cheshire.

Hi John.

There are two Vegas in the Menai Strait at Prot Dinorwic just a few
miles from Conwy, maybe we could get together one weekend.

Hi Ray,

I'm only in Conwy as a stopover. My actual mooring is in ................... Port Dinorwic!!! In Rowen Bay actually. So we really must get together - perhaps a pint at the Garddfon? I bought Vagrant in Fleetwood and have just sailed her across to Conwy. I'm hoping to sail her round to PD this weekend, but I must first deal with a little problem. When I returned to Conwy last weekend to do some work, I found the cabin with two inches of water over the cabin sole. All the skin fittings appear sound, so I suspect the sterngland.

I did in fact send you an email just after I bought Vagrant, as I had seen Tortuga in the yard at PD, but maybe I got the email address wrong.

In any event it would be good to stay in touch.

Hi John.

Sorry to hear about your problem, hope you get it sorted soon and if I
can be of any assistance, let me know (I live locally to the area). Will
keep a lookout for you in Rowen (nice spot).

John.

Saw a Vega on a mooring opposite Bangor pier yesterday near the Gazzell
pub, is this yours? I thought your mooring was nearer Port Dinorwic, or
have you not got that far yet. Unfortunatly I was too far away to read
the name.

Hi Ray,

Yes, it is Vagrant. Well spotted! I sailed, or rather motored her round from Conwy just as far as the Gazelle last Saturday, as I didn't have enough time to wait for the next slack water to sail her through the Swellies. I'll be sailing her to Y Felinheli this coming Saturday morning. It'll be my first time through the Swellies, but I've read the local Pilot and spoken to some of the other sailors at Y F so it should go OK. If you should happen to be around YF or Rowen bay on Saturday, call me on the VHF or on my mobile 07881 821259 and perhaps we can arrange to meet up.

In passing, I would like to publicise how helpful both Mr Lowe, the moorings officer at Ynys Mon County Council and Mr Zealot (not sure if that's spelt correctly!) were in finding the temporary mooring for me at the Gazelle.

Regards,

John Booth

Hi John.

Will look out for you on Saturday, you'll pass Francesca (first mooring
at YF) and Tortuga (adjacent to the sailing club) on your way to Rowen.
I'm heading down the Llyn Peninsulia on Sunday, not sure what our
destination will be, we'll see how the wind shapes up over the weekend.

Regards,

Ray (Tortuga)
