That's used on almost all the newer Hunters, post ~2000 or so. We replace a some of them but they don't seem to be particularly fragile. I think they get lost or go over the side more often that they break. :)

Thanks Phil. I found them on Ebay for a good price. Looks like it involves cutting a notch out of the top board though. Didn't want to do that if they have bad reviews. I do like the inside lock lever feature if you feel you need to be locked in for some reason.

I had a break in a few years ago and the lock was damaged. I think that the hatch was forced forward which caused the plastic to break. The plastic hatch board was not damaged though, which is a good thing. There were several break ins at the time and all the boats that were targeted had this style of lock. Boats with the hasp and padlock were not targeted.

I replaced the lock with the same version and added an alarm. As my grandmother used to say, a lock only keeps an honest man out.

I replaced the lock on my 2005 hunter 33 with one that looks vary similar to the one pictured after someone broke the key off in the lock. The unit slips over the hatch board and if I remember correctly the slot cut in the board was pretty small. It seems to be ruggedly built and has now lasted for 7 years with no problems
