I have not yet read any of the Patrick O'Brian books. After the publicity associated with the Russell Crowe movie "Master and Commander: ....", I've been intrigued enough to want to give them a try. Is there a particular order I should read them in as they build upon one another or does each book stand alone? If the latter, what do you recommend as the best of the series? Dave S/V Benediction

Yes, the order does matter as each book builds on those before it. Master and Commander is book #1, Post Captain #2, H.M.S. Surprise #3 and so on. While you will enjoy any of them out of sequence, the entire set is much more meaningful if read in sequence. It's a great series for anyone who loves sailing and the sea. Regards, Gary Kunkel
