hey ppl: just looking for any members that are from Ontario-preferably out of the hamilton yaught club, la-salle park, bronte or aokville-ya-i'm looking for someone in theses areas in hopes of finding a first time sailboat-i'm stuck on either a trailerable around 25, o0r something 30-32'. want it for lots of sleepovers-mostly being handled by myself but maybe...(wife-if i convince here were not going around the world and shark from Jaws is indeed DEAD)i will be re-training myself as i haven't sailed in years-but that is the only way to train in my opinion-will be on lake ontario most of the time but may go south if i regain skill and am confident that i can do it-if i purchase a non trailerable boat-it must come with a re-nuable slip- and even if it is smaller like a 25' but is at a slip that is available and the price is reasonable i will take the slip also-i need a boatn that is ready to sail-with an updated survey if possible-(why do ppl say have survey from 05 and boat is excellent-does that mean the boat was in some sort of time warp and nothing could penetrate its sheilds for the past 4 years?) I DON'T THINK So lol-also i need a boat that is loaded with all required add-on's like bimini and all lines aft or skipper or... anyways all help appreciated-thanks again-kevan

Humber college
This may be a little far for you but Humber college in Toronto, beside Mimico Marina, has a membership program, where you can take any of their ~30' boats out on a sign out basis. This gives you a chance to try different boats. My wife and I took our CYA sailing courses through them a number of years ago.

Great Year to Buy a Used Boat
I was talking to a local broker, and they are all flooded with used boats in the 26 to 30 foot range, since so many sailors have moved up to the 36 - 42 size in the last couple of years. As well, due to the strength of the CDN$ over the past while, prices here have fallen very sharply - a boat like a CS30 which used to be in the $55k range is now available in the mid $40s, depending on condition and inventory. I suggest you access the websites of the major brokers in Toronto, Port Credit and Niagara area to get an idea of what's available. Your needs would be met by a Catalina, CS or older C&C boat.

thanks jim-i'm thinking of heading over there tomorrow morn. (sat) before lunch-if its not raining again-will they just let me walk in or should i check in at a security desk-also i know all slips will be different prices-approx. what am i looking at for a 26-32 foot slip-or is this even possible-i dont have many more choices of where to get a slip at-i hear it is really expensive at HYC and la-salle wants you to buy them-if they even have any-and i dont want to go much further than bronte-thanks kevan

thats pretty reasonable-do you have to have your boat lifted out for winter or do some stay in the water-i was reading another forum fron T.O. and the guy was saying that they lived there all year-pretty cool-also check this boat out if you wouldn,t mind-i dont need a buy it answer or dont buy it-its just that -to me this looks like a very good deal so far-its a little to pricey for a first timer-i was hopeing around 20k (in orig. post-i put down too much by mistake)

this is something i really like-this is kinda what im looking for-i like it that the engine is an inboard deisel-i like it that al lines led to pit-and i like the water, stove, head, and that the boat doesnt really need anything-it has pressured hot water-solar, bimini etc i really dont have to do much-just buy it and sail it-i have some misgivings about the keel only-plus the fact that the guy selling may be asking a bit high because of the amount that i put down to spend-but that boat is almost perfect (just the keel) what ype is your keel and what do you do with your boat-do you think there might be other deals as good as or better than this-its all appreiciated jimq-thanks-kevan

That Catalina 27 looks in very good condition but I would suggest seeing it in person. The boat seems to be nicely loaded too. Catalina's are nice cruisers. Go take a look.

at $1450 / yr. do they include haul-out, launch and do you have membership fees as well? That's a lot cheaper than our area, but I guess its supply and demand?

The fee I quoted was leasing a serviced slip from the Town.
All other costs such as launch & haulout with winter storage are separate, and paid either to the Town or to the yacht club (if you are a member). Storing etc. with the Town of Oakville is about $150 more than the club. Winter storage with launch & haulout usually runs about $500 a year for a 26' boat.

up here a 26ft. runs $2500 avg. for everything, no membership fees, some marinas are more, some less depending on location and services.
