Was wondering if anyone knew of any known problems with the 1988 to 1994 Hunter 30, and how they feel about the overall boat in general. Also, what is the actual head room? Thanks, Don

My teo cents

I have had my 1989 30g for 5 years now. I am 6'1" tall and there is probably another couple of inches in my boat. I have had great luck with mine. Have the surveyor check for water penetration were the furling block goes thru the deck near the anchor locker. Hunter unfortunately did not seal these and are a potential source of deck rot in the area. got to reef the main around 18 knots to keep the boat flat. The majority of your drive will come from it as well. Holding tank is very small at 6 gallons. The rear berth is very big, but this compramizes the availible cockpit space. Not alot of room in the cockpit, but if you sail with just one or two people, it is fine. if you got any specific questions let me know and I will respond as best I can. Finally, mine cme with a feathering prop and shaft seal which I like. Good Luck.

Best there is

You will not find a better 30 from many points of view...I had a 92, now reworking a '94 because could not find a new, or older, all around cruising boat better for 2, with occasional grandchildren weekenders. Solid, safe, fast enough, easy to monitor/maintain systems, plenty of room below...you will want to change out the holding tank, however. For much more, check the achives...lots of jabber about this model last summer/fall.

Good boat

I have an '89 which does a great job for me. When sailing in a group, she'll smoke all of them except the cat. It's a very comfortable boat for relaxing on and in. Parts of the hull are thin. The sugar scoop transom is noisy at night. The V is really only big enough for one. There's not much room to add batteries. I had 4 on board on a week cruise. One guy is 6'3" and was glad to get off after a week, but was pretty comfortable all in all. I lived on it for a couple of months and found it very comfortable. A good boat.

G or T?

The H-30 (1988-1994) was produced in two distinct models, the G(1988 to about 1990) and the T (1991-1994). They were similar but yet very different. The hull and rigging look to be the same but interior and cabin top were very different. I have a 1991 and love it but have a friend who has an early 1988 and he has lots of issues with it. Search the archives and you will find comments concerning the differences. My only complaint is the original metal holding tank is a disaster waiting to happen unless it has been replaced.
