Hi all Is there any interest in starting a Catalina 27/270 fleet in BC as a part of the International Catalina 27/270 Association? There are fleets all round the US, but none in Canada. This kind of thing would be primarily social, but it might be fun to do. You can find out more at www.catalina27.org. If we get really desparate, we could even consider letting the odd C280 in. :)

How about a BC Catalina Fleet

If you are an organizer, why not try to get a all Catalina Fleet going, then see if there are enough 27's to support a fleet of their own? There are enough Catalina's in BC to make such an organization worthwhile. I'd love to see a Catalina presence at the boat show, even if it was an owners group.

All Catalina Fleet

I have been contacted by the Fleet Admiral for Catalina27.org to see if I want to get a C27/C270 fleet going. It would probably not be too difficult to make it an All Catalina fleet if there is more interest.

Go for it!

I'd like to see a Catalina fleet that could qualify with CYA as a Yacht Club. There seems to be a "catch 22" in Canada. To be a CYA member you also must be a member of a club. In the US, you can join US Sailing with no club membership. This allows you to enter races as long as you are a US Sailing member. In Canada, you technically have to be a CYA member to get a PHRF certificate. To become a CYA member you have to join a club. I live in Port Moody, Deep Cove YC is the closest(by water) CYA Club to me, but its a 40 minute drive by car. RVYC, WVYC, and all the other clubs are far enough away that I would seldom find it convenient to use the clubs. A Catalina Association in BC, might become a virtual yacht club, giving the members CYA status and a presence at BC Sailing. It might serve the needs of many people quite well. I know there are 100's of Catalina's in BC, there are probably 15+ in every marina. If you can find a way to contact the owners you might end up with at good sized fleet. I'm in to help as long as there is no long term responsibility involved (I've served my years as a club fleet capitan). :(

Contact your local Catalina dealer

Our local Catalina dealer who has just moved from False Creek to Coal Harbour is keeping a list of all Cat owners. He also has a spiffy Canadian Catalina Burgee for sale ($25) which I purchased. These guys would be the logical ones to approach with your idea as he has the contacts already.
