I'm considering the purchase of a Cal 22 but cannot find any info. about this boat(1987 model). I have owned a 1975 Catalina 22, is it a similar boat? If anyone knows where I might find any info.(brochures, replacement parts, specifications etc.) it would be greatly appreciated. Also was wondering was Cal bought buy another company or did they just get out of the business. Thank you, Steve

re:cal 22

We have a 1986 cal 22. Bought it two years ago, a step up from my Hobie 16, tho I have sailed J80s, J105s and other keel boats over the past few years. The Cal has been great.Very dry, stable, fast. I have the brochure and can fax or email it to you if you give me an address. We're moored next to a Catalina 22 actually, and they seem similar. Obviously the fin keel(if that's the one you're looking at)draws a bit more water than the swing keel catalina, but in exchange, you get great upwind sailing and overall the boat is quite fast. good luck. Cal 22 is real nice boat

Years ago I owned a 1987 Cal 22 and we also found it to be dry, stable and fast. Ours was shoal draft and we had a cruising spinaker on it. It was a lot of fun plus has overnight capability. It's a great boat. We move up to a 1983 O'Day 28 (which is for sale now) and recently purchased a Cal 33. Cal was purchased by Lear Seagler Marine, who also owned O'Day, sometime in the early 80's. The 80's Cal boats were built in Fall River, MA right along side of the O'Days. When a group at O'Day bought out the O'Day and Cal lines, they paid a little too much, I understand, and had difficulty paying the mortgage. They went under in the late 80's. Hope this helps. Chuck
