Any ideals ?

Starboard side under dinette seat of a Mac 24, goes thru hull, a plug for whatever. It could be a drain I guess but it sits 2" above the hull

Clearly a thru-hull and a blanking plug. i don't see a keyway so I'd guess depth and speed.

You didn't say if it was above or below the waterline. If below the waterline I think Kito and Jackdaw are correct. Looks a lot like the through-hull that came with a knot-meter that I had for my V-222. I never installed it because I don't like putting holes in my hull, especially below the waterline.

I would agree with the others... the fact that it has its own special plug usually indicates a either a scuttle port or where a sensor once was, because "servicable" thru hull sensors almost always come with a plug to insert when you need to remove and service the sensor...

Thanks for the replies and answers, Yes below water line, and You are all probably correct, it came with the depth and speed sensor gauges in the bulk head but no wiring so they were removed and forgot about. Should I have any concerns about it!

If the rubber and plastic all seem to be in good shape you'll be fine if you just check on it once a month or each time you put her in the water. If either of them look less than perfect you should replace it. Some people rely on their knot-meter as an indication of their performance and others are only interested in SOG (speed over ground) so a GPS is all they need. If later you decide that you don't need a knot-meter you can always remove it and patch the hole.

Maybe buy a new o-ring. I always had concerns that a tiny o-ring was the difference between floating and going down. I took my paddle wheel out but now have a dummy plug with an o-ring.

I would glass over the hole unless you plan on putting in a new depth finder in the same place.

I always wondered why either Groco or Algonquin doesn't offer a blank thru hull fitting. At least it would give a future owner the option to use an existing hole rather than always drilling a new one.

Would be nice, they probably figure everyone just glasses over rather than reusing, my new sensor, even if it needed a hole wouldn't fit, "square peg in round hole"
