New to this site, and read the recommissioning article with interest. I have a standard Jabsco 29090 with no intake flow on a 1989 Ben, which I have owned for a year. I have been pouring sea water after and through, without necessary use of the tank. The boat has been well maintained, but I couldn't guess how much the head was used. The tank was bone dry with dust when I got her and the flush lever needs lubrication if thats any indication. I understand the head's basic functions, but don't desire to take it apart. Should I do a general overhaul? What in particular am I looking for? Thanks for any advice. s/v Almost Lost It

The head 10 years old...

...and has prob'ly seen -0- maintenance. It never was the best head on the market to begin with...Since your only two choices are rebuild it or replace it (unless you just want to continue to ignore it till it fails--keeping in mind that Murphy was an optimist), and you don't want to take it apart...I'd replace it. Rebuilding prob'ly wouldn't restore a 10 yr old toilet to original working specs anyway. I am a bit confused by the following, though: " I have a standard Jabsco 29090 with no intake flow...I have been pouring sea water after and through, without necessary use of the tank" Are you saying that there's no intake thruough-hull and you've been flushing with water from the sink? That the head won't prime and you've been flushing with water from the sink? And what do you mean by "without necessary use of the tank?" The holding tank? A flush water supply tank? I suspect English may not be your first language? :)

Head Overhaul

Head Mistress: Thanks for the response. BTW, its a Beneteau F235, not a Hunter. Sorry, my writing tends to be cryptic. My message stated that the intake from the thru hull is not working, so, alternatively, I pour seawater through the head in order to wet flush. I haven't had any need to use the holding tank, so the outake is out through a thru hull fiting, bypassing the holding tank. Nothing from the sink, nor anything foreign, goes in the head. I was hoping that the problem is minor and am trying to keep costs down. I'm guessing that the problem is somewhere in the ring assembly or the top valve seat. What do you suggest and how extensive are the repairs. Thanks, Andrew C.
