I am looking at getting a Hood jib furler for my CS27 (masthead rig sloop, 27 feet, 6,100 lbs.). Hood has a budget priced line of jib furlers of which the 707 SL is the current model. It recently replaced the 700 SL which was on the market for a couple of years. Does anyone have any experience with these models they would like to share.

Hood systems

Hood makes a budget-priced entry-level system that is easy to install yourself. It is OK for recreational daysailing and weekend cruising. If you anticipate doing more than that, I would think about upgrading.

Any experience with the Hood 707 SL Furler

Steve, do you actually have any experience with the Hood furler, or are you just reading the same articles and sales literature that I am? Kevin

Hood Sea Furl 707

Kevin, I bought a Hood Sea Furl 707 from Quantum Sails at the Toronto Boat Show last year. I have used it for one season on my 1980 Hunter 27 and am very pleased. No problems at all operating the unit, it was easy to install and the price is right. See the photo below to show the drum end on "Breakaway". You can also look in the Owners Directory for another picture. Since the Toronto Boat Show just ended, I presume you saw it there (I did too!) at Quantum's booth. Go for it. Regards, Fred.

Fred, couldn't find you in the directory

Fred, thanks for the offer to email the brochure. I couldn't find you in the owners directory. But I have enrolled my info, so if the offer still stands you can find my email in the directory. Thanks, Kevin Bennett
