Just bought a '96 H26 and got her in the water on Saturday. Sure have enjoyed all the chat here since January while I waited for spring!!! Thanks What are the neatest places to store the four pinboards from the companion way each time you go sailing? I checked the archives but came up empty handed.

Pillow cases

Sew up some old pillow cases with pockets in them. Put your pin boards under your cushions where they will not fall out when you heel over. Keeps the boards from getting scratched and they are out of the way. Heloise

Sleeves

I sewed up a sleeve (pack cloth) with three pockets (the 2 wooded slats go in one), then attached it to the head wall just inside the companion way. I attached “tightening straps” to tighten it down. Works great, but think I will eventually make or buy companion way doors.

Used leftover canvas...

to make a bag for three boards on C25. The canvas is rough and will not slide around on quarterberth cushions so I don't have to "hide" the boards to secure them. Use shallow port lazarette on H31. Put under port sette cushion on H25 (two boards); it has a lip on it that keeps the boards from coming out underway/heel.

STORAGE RACK

I built a rack to hold the hatch boards on my H26 out of 1/2" PVC pipe. It is mounted on outside the head next to the hatch. The boards drop in vertically an are out of the way, but convenient.

How about a photo, Jim?

How about posting a photo of your creation on the photo forum of this web site? Sounds like something the rest of us might wish to build for our boats.

Hatch Bag

I tired of the boards being in the way constantly, too. All four boards will fit perfectly in the space just aft of the head door, if they are vertical. I had a marine canvas company sew me up a custom bag. It contains three compartments. The two larger boards interlock together, just as they do when in use, only vertical, and fit closest to the wall of the head in one large compartment. The other two boards fit in separate pockets (vertical)outside of the other two boards. The bottom of each compartment is reinforced with Evolution 3 fabric to reduce chafe. The bag has a flap that folds over the top and is also lined with Evolution 3. The bag is made of navy Sunbrella and looks and works great. The bag is fastened to the head wall with twist fasteners on the top (I don't know the real name of the hardware, but they are like the ones on my mainsail cover) and velcro on the bottom. Feel free to email me if you want the name of the canvas company. Ned Christensen gnedc@gte.net
