Hellow, I have just bought a 430 from a marina where it had been abandoned for 3,700$. engine runs, genset runs and hull is structurally sound. She has a mast and roller furling. Winches were taken off. There was a small problem with rapid oxidation near the nav station, some refer to as fire. I am hoping to find another 430 owner whose boat I can have a look at as there are some things a have no idea about. Please help :)

Hi there.
I just had a look at the photos.
Are you a shipwright, or have equivalent skills?
This is a ground-up restoration.
I wish you the best of success with this.
Big project. I'm hoping it works out for you!

Not a shipwright but I did Play one on TV :) I have some skill in all the fields needed but I do not expect to make this boat look as it did the day it first splashed. My first priority is to insure the motor is working and to get the standing rigging up. Most of the wood below is only in need of a light sanding and cleaning. The fiddles and other trim bits are 90% good. This is a low budget project. For instance, I may even step the mast with vinyl coated galvanized wire. taken care of it will last many years.I have used it before. Cost to rig with the allegedly "Proper" bits is about 3000$. Price to use Galvanized is about 500. She will be pretty down below and the two Air conditioning units work so if it is not identical to the original I do not much care. A bit of teak trim which might cost 100$ can be fashioned with regular lumber, a bit of stain and varnish for less than ten. I have found good used sails already. I have a three speed winch and will not initially buy any others. Current projection is to have her sailable for about 5,000 above purchase cost. I have had a number of project boats and brought them all to a condition of sailing. Im out in CO snowboarding now and will begin the project full time upon my return in a couple weeks. Cheers!

If you think this boat is fixable for $5k, then, in all due respect, you are way off.
This boat looks like it was totally written off.
Putting up masts on a 43 " boat with galvanized steel wire us not a good plan

With 5k I can get bottom paint rigging and motor runs. I have a month free in yard and a free splash. of course , after the 5k I will still have a long way to go but she will motor and sail and have nav lights. Have you ever put a mast up with Galvanised 7 19? I have. It is not like stainless steel has been around that long nor is it a superior metal in many respects. I can always easily see the beggining of corosion with Galvaniased wire. It does not suffer crevis corosion as SS does. A deck fitting for a side stay broke before my galvanised rigging did. When I terminate in a buckle, the total cost for 3/8 wire is less than 18$ and has the same breaking strength as SS. SSS is also more prone to work hardenning. I promise, there really were sailboats before SS rigging...say around 1950. :)

Hunter 35.5 Greece
Hello, I am restoring a hanter 35.5, working weekends, it's been two years, this year I may have done. The costs of restoration are not few. but distribute them in time, from what I've seen from the pictures, it takes a plan of work, and study the products to be used to recover as much as possible.
From the photos I've seen, you can expect a challenging job, but not inpossibile. If you go to my photo album, you can find some ideas.
Hello and Good Luck
