I'll be retiring to port charlotte in a few years and will keep my hunter sailboat in charlotte harbor. I now own 2001 290 with 3'6" draft and I love the boat but keep thinking of making things easy as I am getting old and do a lolt of single handling. I keep thinking of going bigger and inmast furling and just love the 356,so how does the 356 with the deeper draft. Do you wish you had less draft or is it not a big deal. nick

I like a 3'6'' draft

I have a 306 with a 3'10'' draft and have gone a ground 10 to 15 times in 2 years. If you would like to go bigger I think the 4'6'' draft of 34 or 36 Catalina is a better choice. If you are staying in the bay a 290 is a great sailboat and you can go almost anywhere. I keep my boat in Burnt Store Marina and have seen 5'draft sailboats go aground in the marina. I think less draft is better. I have never had to call Sea tow but it is dam cold swimming out to kedge off in the winter.
