Can anyone help? A neighor friend inherited a beautiful antique sextant and is seeking knowledge of it's value and history. It has a custom made wooden box, on it is stamped "Heath
This was the first thing that popped up on a Google search:"I have been asked by a friend to check the provenence and likely UK value of a Heath Hezzanith sextant serial 71509. Can anyone on the list help or anyone on the 'Sextant' list ask there on my behalf?" "They seem to go for about US$220-300 on eBay. Have seen a couple go for more. I bought a really nice 74 model for $229 about 6-8 months ago...but think it was a lucky buy. Is the one your friend is looking at being hawked by that russian gemtleman mmely.ru ?? he had an interesting one for sale a few weeks ago."
...many of the "old" brass sextants on eBay are non-functioning reproductions and wall-hangers, the Heaths and Stanleys included.Caveat emptor!Cheers,Bob
