Anti-skid deck?

I have just done some minor "soft-deck" repair to my 1973 O'day 22.
Now I want to cover up the small holes and at the same time, replace the
anti-skid surface to the deck. Has anyone out there ever tried applying the
black anti-skid dock tape that is available for adding traction on stairs and
docks? It is priced quite reasonably.... Suggestions anyone?

I wouldn't recommend that stuff... it probably won't last that long and will look quite ugly. The holes should be filled with thickened epoxy at a minimum. Then you can paint the deck with any number of non-skid choices, from regular paint with a non-skid additive, to Kiwigrip or Durabak.

you can use paint and a roller, then use dry play sand to whatever roughness you want. From just a little grit, to so gritty it will sand the bottom of your feet off. Use a coffee can with holes in the lid for a shaker or equivalent. Then apply a topcoat to stick it all down.

Black non-skid will fry your feet and make your boat very hot.

Kiwi looks to be a good way to go. No experience but have heard good reviews.

We have used a product called Tuffcoat ( http://www.ultratuff.net/ ) and have been really pleased with it. It is extremely durable, easy to apply, and one of the best non-skids we have found. It also comes in different colors. We have an article coming out in Good Old Boat detailing the installation on our 40' sailboat.

I ordered Kiwigrip from this site and received it 3 days later.I plan to do my antiskid this week-end, I'll let you know the outcome if you are interested .

I have a couple cans of intergrip to put on my boat, but if I hadn't already bought it, I'd go for the kiwigrip. Hopefully, I'll get a couple years out of the intergrip then I'll switch.

+1 for pictures. I have at least two types of anti-skid on the deck (due, in part, to recent re-coring). One of these days I'll clean up the topsides and make it uniform. A little intel would help!
