The marina where I store the boat is gravel over rocky soil. This is the North shore of Long Island. The yard offered to chock the boat as high as I wanted, or to dig the hole. Not knowing exactly how high it needed to be, I opted for the hole. It wasn't bad. Once I removed the steering pulley and preping the propshaft for removal, it took only about 45 minutes to dig the hole, drop the rudder, pullthe shaft and replace the rudder.
