The marina where I store the boat is gravel over rocky soil. This is the North shore of Long Island. The yard offered to chock the boat as high as I wanted, or to dig the hole. Not knowing exactly how high it needed to be, I opted for the hole. It wasn't bad. Once I removed the steering pulley and preping the propshaft for removal, it took only about 45 minutes to dig the hole, drop the rudder,pullthe shaft and replace the rudder.

My boat was in drydock, so unfortunately we didn't have that option. I'll have to consider that on the next haul out - good advice!Thanks again!Rob
