Another sounder problem

So I haven't been down to the boat for a couple of weeks. When I got down yesterday I found that the battery had been left on the # 1 postion. So it was flat (dead). When I switched to the # 2 postion everything powered up except the st 60 depth sounder. All the display would show was -- -- Do you think that having the instruments on and the battery going dead would effect the depth sounder? Any thoughts?

Not likely. Were the instruments also left on? Go ahead and reset the unit and check all connections.

It may be that, without an isolator, the No. 1 battery as it went dead also dragged the charge down on the No.2. What is the state of charge of No. 2 now? Sounds like you need to ensure both batteries are fully charged and the defaults reset on the sounder.

The transducer may have some growth on it. That will effect the unit. If yours is removable while in the water you may want to remove it and clean the sensing unit that is in the water. Otherwise hope it is a cause of teh battery, you don't want to do a short haul is possible.

Benny: The instruments were left on.

Warren: the selector was on bank 1. When I arrived at the boat I switched to bank 2 and the batteries were fully charged.I'll have to read how to reset the defaults.

Paul and Judy: I'll check for growth but I don't think there will be much I've only been in for 5 weeks and it's fresh water.

Again: What kind of transducer? If it's thru-hull: Then growth might be an issue. If it's in-hull, then it's almost certainly not.

Jim I havn't tracked it down but I'm pretty sure it's a thru-hull. I'll be heading down later this weekend and will dive in and check for a growth problem. Never had this problem before not much growth up here

If you let electronics run till the battery is dead you can put them in a state that is not a normal operating one. Then powering it back up from that state without it shutting down via the off switch or it just having the power turned off from normal can leave it still in a not normal state, hense the -- display. Cycle the unit off and on and see what happens.

I was at the boat yesterday and tried to recalabrate the depth sounder with no luck. I also had a look at the bottom . I don't think there's enough growth to worry about but i scrubed the bottom anyway. I also found the bilge was full (auto was switched off!) will water from the dry side of the thru-hull cause problems? How can i tell if the thru-hull is working?
I thought I read somewhere that is makes a clicking sound is that right?
