Another really dumb question...

Hello,I am freaking mad now, this cold is driving the Macho feathers in me, nuts...Here is my second, let's call them 'dumbass' questions...Thanks 'Mark' for the spreader bit, I am making lists and chucking them twice...These people that I bought my 22 from assert that it has a 'fixed' keel...I am sick, as is my dog, and cannot 'face mask and snorkel' this claim...I know it to be a 1977...There is no tackle or ratchet for a center board in what I assume to be a mix of both on the '77 O'day...Could it be true that I have a 'real keel'...Your thoughts please...And 'krikey' if it is true, how do I gain access to the bloody bolts...Really appreciate some knowledge here...Best of the big birthday to you all, if it matters to your particular birth rites ofcourse...YABOH... SH.

Different years - different keels

Sean,From what I gather looking at the 22 specs on the linked site, 22s made from 73-78 had a stubby keel without a centerboard. From 79-83 the 22 had an even shallower keel but added a centerboard.My 76 O'Day 20 has the same stubby keel and centerboard arrangement as the 79-83 22s. I have to assume the keel on the 73-78 is fiberglassed into the hull like mine. I second Mark, and I have a '73

I have a '73 O22, and it has the fixed keel like yours. There are no bolts, as Mark surmised... the keel is cast as part of the hull, and they apparantly poured lead mixed with polyester resin into the keel shape.By the way, I know that the boat would point better with the centerboard, but do not miss it... we can always get were we want to go, upwind or down, without pulling out our hair. Just don't race a J24 upwind, that's all. Rich.

Hello,Thanks bosses...I am just right pied now, but will dive this bugger soon as I am rights to confirm...Thanks for all, none the less, and best of the season, as you see fit for same...When this cold bug passes, it will be spreader boots first, lower rig on boom, and a bilge cut to look for bolts or a pour...Thanks 'you two', by and by, I got a machine shop with lots of SS, you need some ahems, just mail my 'buttocks'...No BS...Out...SH.
