Last night (Thursday morning in France) an Ultim foiling trimaran set out to see if they can beat the 'round the world record of just under 41 days, set in 2017. They were headed south at about 30 knots. Track their progress here: SVR Lazartigue: Official website of the Trimaran SVR Lazartigue. They're running ahead of the record-setting time set by Francis Joyon aboard IDEC Sport at this point.
Another Ultim tri, Sodebo, is waiting for a better weather window before they head out again. They set out on 10 DEC but returned to France after breaking a rudderpost. Accueil - Sodebo - Trophée Jules Verne. The rules let boats start when they want and the clock begins counting when they cross the starting line.

Turning tables...
On Sunday 22 DEC Lazartigue tore the tack of their gennaker and determined that the weather windows in the Southern Ocean were not as wonderful as they had hoped. They have returned to France and are hoping to re-start the challenge in January.
Sodebo is continuing, averaging better than 27 knots over the past 24 hours as they approach Brazil. They are about 2 nm behind the record pace at this point.
